Early Life of Katy Perry

Katheryn Hudson was born in Santa Barbara, California, on October 25, 1984, to Pentecostal pastors Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson. She has two siblings (a brother named David and an older sister, Angela) and is a niece to Frank Perry, a film director.

Katy Perry has English, German, Irish, and Portuguese ancestry. She attended religious schools and camps, including Santa Barbara Christain School in California. She attended Paradise Valley Christain School in Arizona during her elementary years.

Katy was only allowed to listen to gospel music, but she discovered pop music by sneaking CDs from her friends. At 9 years, she started vocal training because her sister was taking vocal lessons, she wanted to be like her.

Katy Perry’s Career

After completing her GED (General Educational Development) requirements at the age of 15, she left school to pursue a career in music.

Katy moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to work with “Steven Thomas” and “Jennifer Knapp”. After signing with Red Hill Records, her debut album, “Katy Hudson”, was released n 2001.

Although she had positive reviews from critics, the album was commercially unsuccessful, only selling an estimated 200 copies.

At the age of 17, Katy moved to Los Angeles, where she moved from gospel music to secular pop. In 2004, she signed to the label Java, which was then affiliated with “The Island Def Jam Music Group”.

After Java was dropped, Katy signed with Columbia Records and was dropped in 2006. Katy Perry signed to Capitol Records, where she worked with Dr. Luke on material for her second album “One of the Boys”, In April 2007.

However. in order to promote the album, her song “Ur So Gay” was released a digital EP in November 2007. She rose to success when she released her single “I Kissed a Girl” in April 2008.
